Steven Yu, a MD/PhD student at UTMB (2025-), graduated from UCLA majoring in Computational and Systems biology with a minor in neuroscience. During his undergraduate years, he focused mainly on computational genomics, studying bacterial transposable elements to create a databases of bacteriophages that can be artificially created to target multidrug resistant bacterial infections at Sandia National Laboratories and the role the variable domains of T and B cell receptors play in recognition of cancer cells at Cedars-Sinai. Currently, his research interests are using his extensive computational background to better understand different neurologic diseases, especially glioblastomas and other brain tumors, on a transcriptomic and proteomic level.
